Opening Scene Narration - Miss Miller

To come up with the final idea of our opening sequence narrative each member of our group came up with their own individual storyboard. After coming up with our own individual storyboards we all got together and discussed what each of our ideas were. Our group then combined our ideas to compose a  completed version of our narrative. This was a way to establish that all of our efforts get recognised by each adding and contributing different ideas it made our storyboard more refined.

In the first frame of our storyboard is an extreme close up. It will introduce us to the planning room where this shot will take place, the lighting of the planning room is primarily low key lighting. No actors will be in the frame as the only thing in the frame will be the extreme close up of the photo of the girl. This frame will be the first of three frames to show the killer planning a murder. The photos will be of our victim. The second frame will be a close up of another two pictures in the planning room in this shot the audience will see the edge of other photos which suggests this has been planned fro a long time. The lighting is still low key yet eerie music will be played in the background to create suspense. A linking shot will then be used to introduce shot three, another close up in the planning room where the audience can see all the photos the antagonist has of the victim all linked together with pieces of string signifying to the audience that the antagonist has followed her life events. This is then followed by a mid shot of Nojus who plays the killer we see the back of him but his identity is hidden. The eerie music gets louder and the lighting is still low key.

The next page starts with frame number 5, this frame will be two seconds long. The shot will be an establishing shot of the school which the victim attends. The only lighting that will be used is he natural high key lighting from the outside. No other lighting will be added as we want it to seem as realistic as possible. The sound that the audience will hear will be the edited in ringing of the school bell. Frame number five will be used to show the location of the school as this is significant to the rest of the opening sequence. This will then fade into frame 6 a tracking shot of the victim walking into school with her school bag on. Sound of children playing in the background will be hard to  show the audience this is a during school hour. Frame 7 is of the victim signing into school which will show the audience that she attends the school this will be an over the shoulder shot, the iconography in this frame will be her swipe card ID. The sound that will be hard is the on screen sound of the beeps coming from the ID swiper. There will be no additional lighting added just the natural lighting from the sixth form common room. We will then use a straight cut to display frame 8, a low angle of the victim walking down the school hallway, in this frame the audience can see the creep walking behind her the only iconography in the frame is the victims school bag. The only noise that will be hard is the footsteps of the victim, no other lighting will be uses other than natural high key lighting.

The ninth frame is a low angle shot of the creep as he and the victim are having a conversation on the stairs. The audience will be able to hear the conversation the diegetic dialogue, the most key quote that will be heard is the creep saying 'come with me I've something to show you'. Frame 10 is a high angle of the victim responding to what the creep is saying. There will be no other sound heard other than the victim declining the offer to come with him. The editing in this scene will be the shot reverse shot of the conversation. A jump cut to the eleventh frame is where a point of view shot from the killers perspective is used, the lighting will be slightly darker so the audience are able to depict something is not right, as we can only see from the killers point of view there will be a very narrow hallway of what the audience can see, the same hallway the creep and the victim are in. The sound heard will be from the conversation of the victim and the creep. There will then be another straight cut to take us to the twelfth frame, in this the audience will see a shallow focus on the killer who is about to turn he corner and see the creeps body laying on the floor and covered in blood, the use of iconography is significant in this scene there will be the fake blood also the knife we previously saw in the beginning of the sequence. While this is all beaning seen by the audience scary music will play in the background to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

The next page starts with frame 13, from frame 12 we will use a jump cut. This frame will be of a low angle on this killer looking at the creeps body to signify to the audience it was not him that did it and how he is puzzled to what is going on. We will use continuity editing in this frame. The non diegetic music will be playing in the background it is quiet and will get louder. The next frame is of an over the shoulder shot which is of the victim who is escaping from what she has just done, we will see her constantly looking behind her  to see if anyone is watching what she has done and getting paranoid. No iconography will be used and the lighting will be the natural lighting from outside, however the eerie music will still be playing faintly in the background. Followed by the 15th frame, this is where there is a close up on the victims face who will then look at the killer and both of them will be in the frame this is where the audience will know who is responsible for the death of the creep. The only sounds that will be heard is the onscreen sound and the faint eerie music in the background, a reaction shot will be used on the victims face. In frame 16 a canted angle will be used to show the imbalance of what has just happened, this will be from the perspective of the killer who will then spot the victim in his eyesight and chase her. There will be no extra lighting just the natural lighting but the music will change to one that will cause suspense. No iconography will be used as there will be no use of it as the camera shots will take place so quickly.

The next page starts with frame 17, a jump cut will be used to get from frame 16 to this one. Through a deep focus the audience will see the victim slowly disappearing and hear the heavy breathing of the killer as he is out of breath from running after her.The natural lighting from the sunlight will be the only lighting used in this scene. This is then followed by frame 18, where the audience can see the killer has been hit by something over the head and is knocked unconscious. The only sound heard will be the edited in sound of him being hit with a blunt object. The next frame is of a steady cam where the audience can see the killer opening his eyes and remembering what has happened, the lighting is natural and as the killers face is the only thing in the frame no iconography will be used. There will then be a fade to the 20th show a high angle of where the body was but now there is no body.

The next page starts with the  21st frame. This frame shows a close-up of the victim walking down the road out of school, the only person in this frame will be the victim who seems to have gotten away with the murder they have committed. Using and making a story board will help me and Nojus identify which frame should come next so we don't have to worry about anymore of the planning stage and only worry about the filming.

  1. You have provided a sound recount of your group's opening scene narration, explaining what happens at each stage.

    You need to:
    1) Make sure you cover all micro-elements (sound and editing seem to be lacking) used at each stage - and make sure you state the terminology rather than just describing (e.g. sound of school bells)
    2) Double check spelling and grammar
