Group Storyboard - Miss Miller

Within our groups, we had to make a group storyboard in order to add all of our ideas into one collective story board. This became a combination of all our narratives. This story board we used to create the process of filming our sequence easier as we will have a guideline to follow. We took out elements of all the different ideas each person in our group had, We took the most conventional and original ideas to ensure our narrative was the best.

The first page of our story board came from Nojus' story board, We decided that his was the best idea as it was the most conventional and best way to engage the audience. The idea is that we see the killer planning the murder and linking all the evidence together which will convey to the audience that he has thought out this idea which leaves the audience questioning why someone would go though all the trouble to try and plan out something in such depth. The hidden identity of the killer will allow the audience to question his identity and leaving them to wait until the end of the film to find out who is behind the mask. This idea is highly conventional to thriller films as the antagonists identity is usually hidden.

Ideas from my story board were also used, the weapon i chose was incorporated.  There will be a shot of the creep dead and the knife next to him. This shot is called a kuleoshov. This particular shot will convey to the audience that a significant event has taken place, the murder of the creep as there is just a knife left the audience can tell there is a killer on the loose and that they are on the lose. This shot will create tension as the audience anticipate that if the killer is on the loose and wait for them to strike again.Another idea that was taken from my story board was the use of silence i decided that the only noise that the audience will be able to hear is the sound of the killers footsteps. This will create a mood the no other sound in the scene would do, it builds tension and makes the audience more involved as they will be focused on who is behind the point of view shot. This is a good way to let the audience try and work out who point of view they are looking though.

Overall our storyboard was conventional to the thriller genre as we all enveloped the best and most thriller like ideas from all of our story boards. By adding all of our ideas together we were ab le to make the best version of the narrative and how we were able to present it. This also made our storyboard more imaginative. We also have back up ideas if our story board idea doest work. For example if the chase sequence at the end looks bad we can use mine or Nojus' ending from our storyboards to finish the opening sequence.

In this storyboard we felt that the hidden identity of the killer should be used in our real filming process, this is because it is conventional to the thriller genre and will give the overall mood of the opening sequence a mysterious effect. The hidden identity will be created by the killer wearing a hooded jumper and his face not being within the focus of the camera. Although his identity is not fully hidden the audience will feel apprehensive towards him as they have no clue to what this person is capable of of his intentions.

We have divided to take the idea of the long shot from Harrys individual narrative as we felt like this creates an emotional connection with the audience as they can see how close the antagonist and the victim will be without the victim being aware. We also had the idea of the tracking shot shortly after this made the audience feel like the victim was easy to deceive.

Risk Assessment - Miss Georgiou

It is vital to consider the risks before filming to find out what decisions we should avoid and how to ensure we have a bcd up plan if anything was to go wrong. They are also used to ensure that each members of our group is kept safe. By identifying all the risks we are able to provide rules, fro example checking to make sure the tripod is secured properly will prevent it from falling over and injuring anyone in the way. By making everyone in our group aware we are able to reduce the risks. Whilst filming the members in our group will take turns at looking at the table below to make sure we are not in contact with any risks. If we do encounter a risk I would inform all members of our group and rectify the hazard before it becomes a danger to the filming process.

Risks
Who could potentially be harmed?
Impact
Risk management
Backup plan
Cut our self while using the knife
All actors/ camera man could cut themselves by holding the prop
High impact, not only would the wounded person have to go to hospital and receive stitches, this would put a stop to filming and delay the scene being filmed.
To make sure this doesn’t happen, our actors must be made aware that the prop Is not fake further understanding they must be cautious when handling the sharp object and only hold it when needed during the scene. The actors must also be made aware of basic knife safety in order to handle it properly. The knife will be covered at all times when an actor is not holding it to prevent fatal injuries.
If the knife is an inappropriate prop to use then we shall use a fake knife to create the same effect and remove the knife from all our scenes.
Slip on wet concrete
All members of our production could be affected.
High impact, a fatal injury could take place meaning that filming may have to stop, in an extreme circumstance the victim would have to go to hospital which would be time consuming. Their injuries could prevent them from being able to take part in the rest of the opening sequence.
To avoid this happening I would have to make sure the people in my group all wear appropriate footwear for example trainers that support their feet that have grips on the bottom so that they do not trip over. We would also consider if the weather was appropriate to film in for example torrential rain would be difficult to film in and increase the likely hood of someone in my group getting harmed by slipping on the wet concrete.
If the organised day o filming has terrible weather conditions the date will have to be changed and we would have to film the indoor scenes on that particular day. If all the indoor scenes have been filmed yet it would be impossible to film inside  would suggest that we started editing our piece so we are not wasting time.
Trailing leads while filming
The public, the actors but more than likely the cameraman could be hospitalised.
High impact, tripping over the leads from the camera in the worst-case scenario could break the victims leg.
To avoid any injuries from the leads of the camera, taping down the lose wires with brightly coloured masking tape would make them more visible to everyone filming therefor as they are more noticeable it is less likely for anyone to trip over them. Secondly by taping them down they would not only be more visible but they would be out of the way.
For a back up plan we have decided that it would be more appropriate to charge the camera before we start filming and then charge it every time we stop using to as an alternative to having to keep it on the charger lead the whole-time. This would also be convenient as when we are doing the tracking shot it would be impossible to keep on the lead the whole time.
Rainy weather
Bad weather conditions could affect the rate of filming which would affect every person in our group
High impact, anyone in our group could fall or slip on wet surfaces. This could also damage the equipment we are using which if damaged could ruin our whole sequence and delete everything we have made.
A way to avoid the weather being a hazard to our opening sequence is by checking the weather forecast to see if any sever weather would affect filming for the next day. If the weather is bad on the day we are filming my group have decided to not chance getting the equipment ruined so we would film an inside scene while the weather is bad, then film the outside scenes when the weather has improved.
As a back up plan if we have filmed all the inside scenes and we only have the outside scenes to film if the weather is not too bad then we will put an umbrella over the camera to avoid our existing material getting damaged and also allowing us to carry on filming but not waste time doing nothing
Poor visibility through mask
Could affect the killer
Low impact as the worst that could happen is the person playing the villain could trip over or into someone else but that is highly unlikely
To avoid injuries by not being able to see through the mask, the person playing the antagonist would have to test out the mask before we start filming so that if there are any sight problems we can rectify them before the real thing. ‘the actor needs to be able to see his surroundings.
If this does not work we will have to reconsider using the mask and get rid of it if necessary.
Tripod falling
Affects the person operating the camera
Low impact, the camera could fall on the camera man as the camera is heavy further if the camera breaks we could lose all our work.
To avoid a situation like this we will get two different people to check the tripod Is set up properly.
The back up plan is to place the camera on a flat surface so we do not have to use the tripod at all.

One risk that we didn't include in our risk assessment was how dark the 'basement' was going to be. In such a confined space with such little lighting it was very claustrophobic especially when me and Nojus both had to be in the room at the same time. The lighting was an issue as in the dark neither one of  us could see what props were on the floor, to prevent any accidents from taking place we had to use the torches on our phones before we pressed record on the camera. This was so we could see what we were doing until the exact point of where filming started.
Another risk we encountered was the stairs in the planning room, we had to film on them but as it was dark Nojus was unable to see the pile of object on them. This could have caused an accident if Nojus didn't move them.
From planning out a risk assessment, it has prevent and enlightened me and Nojus of all the possible risks that could take place. It all notifies us of which one of the cast would be at risk. It also determines how severe some risks can be we use it to prevent injuries or illnesses.

Planning Characters - Miss Miller

The representation of characters is vital during any sequence or film, by creating a certain image for a character the audience is able to build a relationship with them. For example in most thriller films the audience feels empathy or sympathy for the victim, this is usually because they are represented in such a way that the audience feel like they are able to connect with their character and see similar qualities in the victim and themselves. The protagonist usually becomes a well like character who the audience encourages this is created as the protagonist usually takes care of the victim and saves them from any possible danger or harm. The antagonist on the other hand is usually the least favoured character which is also because of how the audience perceives them, the antagonist is seen as the bad guy and usually wants to harm innocent victims which the audience dislike about them. Representations like this build up audience relationships with the characters making them likeable and not likeable spending on their characteristics and how they are portrayed.

The main character which our sequence is based around is our victim, played by a girl aged 17, because of her age the audience are able to decipher that she is a student which fits in with the narrative and setting of our opening sequence, they can tell she is likely to still be in education studying where the sequence is set. This is suitable for the thriller genre as our age certification is set for 15 year olds, so they audience are able to relate to the characters. This builds a closer relationship between the victim and the audience as they are able to position themselves in the victims position and feel targeted by the antagonist making them engage with the film. We have decided that the main character (victim) will be played by a girl as it is more conventional to the thriller genre, in thrillers women are represented as more vulnerable and weaker than the male sex. As women are usually shown as the damsel in distress it helps the audience feel sympathy as they know women are shown as weaker and more vulnerable in thriller films. Th type of clothing our victim will be wearing is her school uniform. We chose this because this would make her look like an ordinary teenager and further make her situation more relatable to the audience.

The antagonist will be wearing dark clothes to signify an element of darkness about his personality further to show the audience that he has had a dark life. The antagonist is also stereotypical to a thriller film as his identity will be covered until the end, he will be masked and quite tall, this will make him appear powerful and intimidating due to his structure. The mask will hide his identity making him appear very mysterious creating suspense, this is commonly used in other thriller films such as scream and the strangers. Masks are usually worn by villains as it hides the identity therefore creates suspense as it could be anyone in the film. This will also be conventional to fit the narrative as the killer is around the same age as our victim and goes to the same school as her. He will disguise himself in order to get closer to the victim in order for the audience to not be able to recognise him, this is conventional as the audience would expect for the killer to be masked. His costume he is wearing will be conventional as the dark colours will symbolise a sinister connotation. He we be around 17 years old which will engage the audience as they can relate to being his age also this will lead the audience to engage further with what goes on in the opening sequence so they are able to pick up on why he is taking on such a challenge. This creates a relationship between the audience and the character as they anticipate all of his moves. When his identity is kept hidden the audience try to spot who he is in everyday life to see if he has any connections to the victim.

In our narrative we have included a red hearing. The victims friend will wear a grey suit conveying that he also goes to the same school as both the killer and the victim, he will come across as weird and strange. In the way he talks and what he says the audience believe it is him to be the stalker all along. The grey suit will be an easy way to confuse the audience to weather he is good or bad, leaving the audience to take their eyes off of the killer and automatically pin the blame on the friend. By all of the characters being the same age it will mislead the audience to frame the wrong person. The audience usually expect to see a red herring in a thriller film to lead them astray. The audience build more of a relationship through this as they do not know the background of this character so they are not aware of what he is capable of. The idea of having the victims friend is in order to confuse the audience as he has the same physical look as the killer, which could lead the audience to think he could have as much power as the victim.

My personal story board is conventional in itself as it will engage the audience due to the codes and conventions commonly used by thriller films.

Individual Story Board - Miss Miller

Story boards are used by film producers to gather all ideas i director may have into chronological order. Story boards are a way of seeing how you would expect your narrative to play out, how you would expect it to look like on paper. The are used to plan where the flinging is going to take place and what the finished project will look like, so everyone involved is made aware of what bit has to be filmed so they do not miss any out.

When planning our group narrative, each member of the group had to create our own story board to show how we each visualised the story line in our heads. We did this so that we would contribute all our ideas to make one overall idea that has been put together from all the best parts of each of our story boards, this is so we can have an original idea that has come from everyone's input. By creating my own individual story board, it has allowed me to develop my own ideas and gather them together in order. After all my group has contributed i will be able to look over or add in anymore elements to make it best fit the thriller genre.

The first page of my story board shows one close-up picture of the victim, this is set in a dark planning room where the camera then zooms out to see a montage of other pictures of the girl. I wanted the first frame to be on screen for 4 seconds as the audience will remember the victims face. This is followed by two other frames that have pictures of the girl in different stages of her life. The first three shots are used to emphasise and convey this girl is being targeted by someone who's identity has not been revealed. This will keep the audience interested because already there is an enigma. These frames will all be in low key lighting and will have non-diegetic tension building soundtrack playing faintly in the background. This will build suspense and as the opening sequence is just beginning have the audiences attention straight away.

The second page shows the establishing shot of where the rest of the opening sequence is filmed, the school the victim goes to. Here only the natural lighting will be sown to give it a more realistic affect, this will then fade into a shot where high key lighting will be used o show the transition from being outside the school to indie the hallway where the victim is catching up with her friends, the lighting will change into low key lighting to signify something is wrong that someone has a dark side. The girls will then tell the boys that she is going home as we see an over the shoulder shot of her leaving the school building. I though this would be the quickest way to introduce that the victim goes to the same school as the killer. The next frame shows the girl walking home this will be a straight cut from the over shoulder shot of her walking out of the school building, the girl constantly looks over her shoulder and frantically looks at her surroundings to see if she is being followed. The next frame in the sequence is where the victim goes into the girls toilet where the friend follows her. After she comes out low key lighting and a suspense building soundtrack will be used to show an unbalance. As she comes out of the toilet a panning shot will be used to show that she walks right past the killer, without even noticing him. This makes the audience feel anger as the girl is oblivious to what is going on.

The third page begins with a close up on the friends face for around two seconds showing he is not scared of the girl, he tells her that he has something to show her and a mid shot is used to show them two walking out of the back doors of the school and into a quiet area. The next frame shows the scared facial expressions of the girl as she is aware she is being stalked but unaware of who by. These facial expressions convey to the audience that she may be planning something and has suspicions of why he brought her to a secluded area. The next shot will be an establishing shot of the secluded area that shows no one around, this helps the audience imagine what is running thought the girls mind.

The fourth page of my story board elaborates the establishing shot that is seen in the last couple of frames, by zooming out from where they are both stood, it will convey how distant the audience must feel from what is happening, displaying that an expected twist is about to take place. Then a close up is placed on the girls pocket where her hand reaches in and she pulls out a knife, this is where the audience are shocked as they were believed to think the friend was the killer the whole time. I will have the next frames really fast to show how fast her heart is beating and so it does not lose the impact of suspense.

The fifth page of my story board starts with an extreme close up of blood on the girls had. I will use this shot as it is conventional to the thriller genre leaving the audience what has happened in the previous shots. It will help highlight the importance of the blood which is conventional to the thriller genre itself. The frame will fade to a blackout where we hear more sound affects of someone being stabbed which makes the audience think that the girl is stabbing him the next image I want is of the girl dragging the body into the bushes. I think this will make the audience no long sympathise for the girl and question her mental state.

The next page of my story board will start with a point of view shot facing the girl who is walking away from where she left the body and walking of as if nothing had happened. This makes the audience wonder why she is not upset or in a state, this leads the audience to believe that she may of done this before and is experienced. The point of view shot follows the girl around until she looks around to see if anyone is watching her. Her movements become quicker as she tries to leave school as quickly as possible. As the point of view shot gets closer we begin to see who's point of view it is and who has seen her do this to her own friend. As the point of view is revealed we are shown that it is the other friend that has been watching her the whole time. As he approaches her on the main road he tells her what he has just witnessed. With that one sentence the girl does not hesitate but brings out the same knife and stabs the stalker. The last couple of frames will be of  a zooming out shot which creates distance between the audience and the scene to reflect what has just happened. The black outs will be parallel as the boy has just died and also parallel to the music playing.

Having created my own individual story board, I found it helpful as it allowed me to gain  a better understanding of what each frame should include and how my planning should be set out.}It has also enabled me to present my ideas in a clear way to my group so we can easily combine our ideas together

Planning Opening Credits - Miss Georgiou

The purpose of having opening credits in our thriller sequence is primarily to tell the audience the members of the main cast, the directors, producers ect are introduced, this gives the audience a better feel for the film and gives them ideas as to if they are likely to enjoy it. From the particular use of font and colours the audience are able to decipher what they can expect the narrative to be. The purpose of credits to a thriller opening sequence can be to introduce the mood or style of the film, they are there to give you a sense of the film. For expel if there is a creepy text or font the audience are able to depict how scary the film is and also what to expect in the opening sequence.

To find inspiration for our opening credits to our thriller sequence we watched the opening credits to the thriller 'Sev7en'. The colours that are used in the sequence are primarily black and white which is conventional to the thriller genre as the black connotes evil yet the white symbolises purity and hope which signifies the victim where as the black is used to represent the antagonist and his dark mentality. As a whole the colours are dark presented through low key light

ing which creates a eerie atmosphere which helps to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The style of the credits shows the flashing of names which are all different heights and unbalanced which makes the audience feel on edge as it doesn't look right. The font looks jagged almost as if it has been hand written by someone poorly educated, this demonstrates the unstable psychopathic image. This is conventional to the thriller genre as the antagonist is usually mentally unstable which leads him to kill someone. During the opening credits it blurs out to a black screen, this is where the title of the film appears which creates emphasis on the significant title. The quick images of the credits compliment the sound track and tempo of the creepy sound track played in the background which is usually conventional to the thriller genre. The quick disturbing movements of the unrevealed antagonist help to create suspense and unsettling atmosphere. There are also various sharp objects shown in the credits such as a needle and a blade which is shown to be scraping off someone's skin off the top of their finger. These objects signify death and could be used in an attack or murder plan of some kind. Further the audience are not made aware of whos hands they are watching keeping the identity of the antagonist hidden, the audience infer that this is the killer hatching a murder or some sort of plan from the progressions of shots that are showed throughout the credits. This is conventional to a thriller opening sequence as the hidden identity of the antagonist is a typical convention featured in thriller films. The order of the opening sequence is as follows; the production company, director, actors, title of film, more actors, casting, music, editors, production, camera operator, co-producer, producer, writers and the  the directors. From this particular order of appearance, it allows the main characters and the  most involved people to be placed first as these are the names the audience will recognise and pay most attention to therefor attracting them to watch the film.

In my credits I used the colours black and white, the black was used to show the connotation of death whereas the white reflects hope of the innocent victims and also their purity. I felt this was appropriate for our thriller sequence as death is a key aspect of our narrative. Both of the colours are used boldly which signifies the juxtaposition between the both of them, in the opening credits the words appear faintly and become bolder which foreshadows how the stalker watches the innocent victim. He watches her from afar at fist which is represented with the faint words. The boldness of the words show how is is waiting to strike. The white writing shows how much black there is onscreen, the audience feel on edge as it is not pleasant for the eyes. The use of black and whet in the sequence is conventional to thriller as it is similar to the opening credits of 'Se7en' the black and white colours are shown in every thriller. I positioned the writing on the side of the screen where the eyes of the audience will be drawn, having the writing on the side of the credits represents how the killer is never in full focus of the shot but is always on the sideline. Having the credits in full focus would not be ideal to fit our narrative it is about a stalking which implies the antagonist does not want to be seen. The title is written in bold writing yet the titles font is uneven and sketchy which creates more of a jagged look, this does not portray a clean image which reflects the antagonist may have a distorted memory or be mentally challenged. The scratched writing also resembles the handwriting of someone, that could be planning a stalking. The use of the font creates an enigma from the unusual, interesting characteristics of which is key in a thriller film. The darkness in the background shows a sense of entrapment from the way the whole screen is black apart from the bright white writing. This is conventional to the thriller genre as the characters often feel trapped mentally or physically unable to escape what the antagonist is doing, this defects the situation that the innocent victims have been put in.

The second person in our group to make their credits was Nojus, his writing was bold and therefor easily catches the audiences eye, just how the victim caught the killers eye immediately in our narrative. The black and white colours Nojus chose to incorporate for the font and the background is conventional to the thriller genre and places emphasis on the good vs evil in our story line. The faded glow around the edge of the letters signifies hope for the victim and that something positive will come from this experience, although this opening is not scary it implies a hidden enigma as the white writing sits directly on top of the black background which symbolises how closely connected the antagonist and the victim may be. This could be a metaphor to suggest that this tim will not run smoothly and foreshadows the plot twist in our narrative. It also displays what is going to take place in our opening thriller sequence. As the writing is slightly off centre it is clear to the audience that something is fragmented this could imply the mental state of the antagonist. The dark background suggests the film has an underlying dark element to it, therefor the colours are typical of the thriller genre this arguably suggests there is an element of mystery to the film. The font used is large and clear which will cause the audience to question what the narrative is about. The title of my groups thriller sequence is undecided however we are thinking of giving it a short title that would signify exactly what the narrative is about without giving too much away.

The last person to do their opening credits was Harry. His idea was simplistic yet effective, he also chose the colours of black and white. This was to again show the contrast between good and evil as our thriller sequence follows the Aristotle narrative theory, as within our thriler there is a significant difference between good and evil. The font Harry used looks like one you would find in a newspaper, I think this will draw the audiences attention as the boldness states something big will happen within the narrative which will have a significant impact on the audience. The way the writing ripples in and out suggests that it will impact all the characters in the scene. Secondly the words 'the' and 'stalking' come in a different times. This exaggerates the word stalking suggesting this is a vital element of the narrative. The advantages of the two different colour contrasts suggests there is going to be a clear divide between the antagonist and protagonist. The only disadvantages is the use of the writing and also the effect used is too time consuming for the opening credits, considering it is only an opening sequence that we are planning we have little time to make a higher deal out of the opening credits it may make audience lose interest before the clip has even begun.

Taking all of the different ideas into account, we have decided that Nojus' would be the most conventional as the font used is more suited to the thriller genre. Fist of all the spacing between the letters conveys how isolated the victim is which fits the thriller theme, it also shows the struggle between good and evil how they have to overcome each other in order to stay alive. Our credits will include all the people that have worked on our thriller, which will be all of our names appearing in the positions of which they are traditionally seen in; production company, director, actors, title of film, actors continued, casting, music, costumes, editors, production, camera operators, co-producer, producer, writers and then directors. Our credits will appear in the background then fade in when the victim walks in.

Sound planning - Miss Miller

Sound is important within films as sound is essential as it creates different effects, films would be ineffective if they did not have sound and the audience would find it hard to follow the story line. Sound effects, diegetic and non dietetic sound effects are all elements that help create the mood of a sequence. Sound helps create suspense surprise and shock three features that are conventional to thriller films. Sound also helps push the narrative forward and liked in with the conventions that are typical to thrillers.

Parallel sound is when the sound or imagers on screen compliment each other. We have decided to incorporate parallel sound at the beginning of our sequence the noise will be of children screaming and laughing in the playground, the images show on screen will be the children at break time, these two elements compliment each other as they emphasise the fact that the scene takes place in school. This will create tension for the audience as they would not be expecting anything bad to happen in a safe place like a school. This is conventional to thriller as everything the audience hears, will make them feel nervous as they will be awaiting for the antagonist to make his move creating suspense. It will also help the audience create a relationship with the victim as they can tell she is just a regular teenage girl who comes to school. It also shows how mentally unstable the antagonist is if he even stalks her at school. This makes the audience nervous as they are scared something is going to the victim at a place where she should be safe which is a result of the parallel sound.

Silence is another sound that is commonly used in thriller films, it helps build tension which is stereotypical of thriller films. My group decided that silence was the best sound to use at the end of the sequence when the killer. My group decided that silence should be used after the victim has killed the antagonist, the silence will be used to create an enigma as the audience are not given any more information about the scene therefore ending on a cliff hanger. This would be effective, as it would contrast from the loud screaming of the victim as she is tying to escape, into the immediate walk away of the victim. By having this silence in our opening sequence the audience should feel nervous which creates a conventional  atmosphere, it will also allow the audience to build a relationship with the victim as they worry about her well being.
Non-dietetic sound is when the sound in a film or a movie has been edited in, it is a sound that the actors cant hear. My group will edit in soundtrack, creepy music, this will be at the end of the scene it will be quite eerie music, that will connote something bad has taken place which leads the audience to anticipate more bad events to come. Most importantly it creates a divide between the characters and the audience almost suggesting that the audience knows the victim is helpless. This creates a relationship between both the audience and the characters as the audience begins to feel empathy fro the victim. The use of non dietetic sound in our sequence will create suspense as the atmosphere will be intensified, the scene will seem more scary as the music will create an atmosphere that other elements would not be as effective to create. The non dietetic soundtrack is conventional to thriller as it would manipulate the audience as they can only imagine what is happening through sound as they can not see anything. This causes the audience to feel nervous. This is conventional to the thriller genre as it will mean the audience experience the full effect of a thriller, they will be more shocked to see how the scene ends .
Another sound element we will incorporate into our thriller sequence is the use of our non diegetic sound track which we will edit in after we have filmed our sequence, the soundtrack will be used through the sequence in order to create an atmosphere throughput the whole sequence. We will use the eerie music to create suspense surprise and shock. We will use soundtrack to help the audience understand the mood of each scene it will also help foreshadow events to come. Using a soundtrack helps to engage the audience with the scene as if there is no music and only dialog the scene becomes boring. In addition it also creates suspense for the audience as they will not be able to hear most of the scene clearly which will leave them wondering for when the killer is going to attack. This is conventional to the thriller genre as the audience are commonly left waiting for something to happen.
We decided to include parallel sounds that the audience would expect to hear in the most common thrillers, firstly we will use parallel sound when the antagonist is being stabbed by the victim. Although the soundtrack will compliment this image, the onscreen sound the audience will identify is the sound of the knife stabbing the antagonist. The use of this gives the audience an idea of the surroundings of them, it helps create a relationship between the audience and the victim as we feel sympathetic that she had to take it that far in order to escape the killer. Another on screen sound we will use is the sound of children in the play ground, this is conventional to thrillers as it helps set the scene which gives the audience an idea of where the sequence is set. The use of this sound is conventional as it helps clarify where the scene is set and what the character is helping the audience to develop a relationship with the victim as they can tell she is just an ordinary girl.

Planning cinematography - Miss Miller

Cinematography is the art of movie photography, this includes both the shooting and development of the film but is usually used to refer to the use of camera angles and shots within a sequence. Cinematography plays a critical role within thriller films as it uses specific camera shots to evoke a feeling on the audiences behalf, it helps form a bond between the characters and audience, After identifying the significance of cinematography my group and i decided to plan what cinematography we plan to use and what affect it would have on the audience. Following this planning we have concluded what elements of cinematography would best suit our sequence.

A canted angle is a shot is where the frame is twisted sideways at an angle, this will be used when the victim is about to be attacked by the killer. The effect of this should convey to the audience that the situation is not quite right, so they situation seems twisted the camera angle may also represent how the antagonist is quite a twisted person and mentally unstable, the angle is used to show imbalance. An imbalance causes confusion and panic for the audience the canted angle will be used to create a greater reaction to what is going on. This is conventional to thrillers as the audience will be unsure of what is going on. Keeping the sense of anticipation.

This shot will be followed with another shot that is significant to the thriller genre. It will be a point of view shot, in this shot the audience will see the victim from afar. They will identify that the stalker is watching the victim from afar in order to prevent being caught. This hot has a huge impact on the narrative because it will be the

fist time we see the victim therefor will create suspense as the audience will be scared as the antagonists identity has not been revealed. A point of view shot is commonly used on thriller films. The point of view shot will also create excitement and force the audience to build a relationship with the characters and have empathy for the victim. This shot will connote that the victim is unaware that the antagonist is watching her due as this shot will show the antagonist standing behind objects so he is not spotted.

A tracking shot will be used when the victim walks past the antagonist unaware of who he is, the audience and the victim presume he is just another school boy. This means the camera will follow the victim walking as we get a quick glimpse of someone following her who is later revealed to be the killer. This means the characters become focused on, clarifying the significance of this scene. By using this camera technique the audience can easily identify this man as the killer when his identity is revealed instead of just being presented as an innocent bystander. This will create confusion for the audience as they will not see how significant the scene is until the killer is revealed at the end of the sequence, it will also reveal to the audience why the girl is paranoid presenting to the audience that she is always being watched and that she is never safe.

A close up will be used on the antagonists face when his identity is revealed. This means that the camera will focus on his face for a short period of time, showing nothing else in the frame. This highlights the presence of the antagonist as he is revealed to be someone the victim knew the whole time. By doing so, the audience are made to question the antagonists mental state, subtly showing how deranged this boy is stalking following and planning a murder onto one o his own friends. This shows the audience that the boy is dangerous, it causes the audience to feel tension as they have to wait to see the victims reaction. It also exaggerates the hidden identity as we see no clues or hits to who he is during the whole scene which builds up suspense, the audience left clueless until now. Overall this creates a relationship between the antagonist and our audience who may become frightful of this man.
